Tips for Yamunotri & Kedarnath Trek

Start trekking early in the morning to avoid heavy road traffic.

The shoes you wear must have strong grip, so that you are not prone to slipping on the mountain paths along the trek, can stay steady when stepping on slippery slopes or piles of rubble, and will not fall accidentally.

Bring enough drinking water for yourself, which can save you a lot of money on the road. Buying water locally in Kedarnath costs Rs. 80–100 per liter.

Pack the commonly used essential medicines into your backpack, so that if you have a headache and fever, or get cuts and bruises from bumps and scrapes along the way, you can treat them in time.

Pack your raincoat and warm clothes to carry with you. It helping you safely avoid the risks of freezing exposure and getting drenched.

This hike already covers a very long distance, you must slow your steps and move cautiously.

Do not push yourself too hard while traveling. Stop to rest for a short while from time to time, conserve your strength, and avoid overexerting yourself to the point of injury. Only then can you complete this long journey safely and steadily.

If there is a heavy rainstorm, you must not go out to hike. After rain soaks sloped ground and small paths thoroughly, the road surface will become extremely slippery, creating a high risk of danger.

This registration is not optional; it is a mandatory requirement under the official guidelines issued by the Government of Uttarakhand, and pilgrims should not skip it. What if you have not completed your registration before you arrive at the pilgrimage site?

If you accidentally missed the registration, either because you rushed to keep up with your itinerary or simply forgot about it, and you have arrived directly at the site, do not panic. Just bring your Aadhaar Card and a printed copy of it with you.

You can go to the dedicated registration counters set up near the temples to complete a supplementary registration on the spot. Even though this remedy exists, it is still best to finish your registration before you set off, to avoid delaying your trip. Wasting time queuing to register on-site, or encountering any last-minute issues before departure, would only create a pile of unnecessary trouble.
